A big quantity of outdoor activities on land and on the lagoon, a pinch of culture, a hint of adventure, an abundance of trying new activities, a family-friendly accommodation, and a spacious car to transport everything: this is the unique recipe for the Robinson-style family holiday.



Day 1: Arrival in Noumea

 

You will be presented with a fresh flower lei on your arrival at La Tontouta International Airport.

 

Transfer to your hotel in Noumea.

 

Accommodation at the Chateau Royal Beach Resort & Spa in a two-bedroom Superior Suite.

 

 

Day 2: Noumea


Buffet breakfast at the hotel.

 

You will be given the keys to your rental car (family car, category D) at your hotel.

 

Make the most of your "Nature and Culture" Pass * to discover the Aquarium of the Lagoons (closed on Mondays), where you can see the different natural environments of New Caledonia in one spot: Rivers and "creeks", the ocean and its dephts, mangroves and, of course the lagoons. You will be given a taste of the variety of underwater life that abounds in New Caledonia, including turtles, sharks, nautilus and a carnival of reef fish. The darkened room with its flashing fish and fluorescent coral will be a highlight of your visit.

 

A taxi boat will take you on the 10 minute trip to Ile au Canards for an afternoon of relaxation on a sun chair under an umbrella. A light lunch including a soft drink is provided in the package. The lunch is served at the cafe, under the traditional Kanak hut. Also included in the package is one hour's rental of snorkelling gear (flippers, mask and tuba) to discover the underwater path. Over to you to recognize the fauna and flora that you saw at the Aquarium on the path that is marked out by floating signs. A number of outdoor sculptures created by Pacific artists give a cultural atmosphere to the Island.

 

Return to the hotel.

*The "nature and culture" Pass includes entry for one adult to 6 essential sites in Noumea: Aquarium of the Lagoons, Maritime Museum, Territorial Museum of New Caledonia, City Museum, Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center, and the Zoologival and Botanical Park.

 

 

Day 3: Nouméa

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.

 

Your "Nature and Culture" Pass opens the doors to the Maritime Museum of New Caledonia (closed on Mondays) which was re-opened in 2013 after renovation works. The exhibitions will interest both young and old alike, including those devoted to the La Perouse explorations. There are also games areas where young people (and the accompanying adults) can learn more about the history of seafaring in New Caledonia.

 

Your Pass will take you up to the Parc Zoologique et Forestier (Zoological and Forest Park) where you can discover the different species native to New Caledonia, such as the Cagou – New Caledonia’s emblematic bird, and enjoy the play areas and magnificent views of Noumea.

Day 4: Nouméa - La Foa (112km)

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.

 

Travel to Dumbea (30km / 25min).

 

9am – Introduction to Stand up Paddle for all the family (6 years and older) at Parc Fayard, and enjoy a charming promenade on the river to discover the flora and fauna.

 

Lunch – You will need to organise a picnic.

 

Drive up to La Foa (100km / 1h20).

 

On your arrival, you will be welcomed by the owners who will be more than pleased to show the children their farm animals.

 

Dinner at the homestay.

 

Accommodation at the Petite Ferme in a bungalow.

 

 

Day 5: La Foa - Kone (160km)

 

Continental breakfast at the homestay.

 

Head to Bourail (55km / 45min).

 

9:30 am – Eco-discovery in the Bourail region.

Visit Turtle Bay and the Roche Percée (Pierced Rock) site aboard a boat and listen to the skipper explaining how nature formed the Bonhomme de Bourail (rock formation resembling a man's face).

Snorkelling gear is available so you can dive into the turquoise waters and hopefully see some dolphins.

Then you will be taken to Ile Verte (Green Island) where lunch will be provided and where you can relax for a while.

 

2pm – Back to land

 

Drive to Kone (110km / 1h30)

 

Accommodation at the Koniambo Hotel in a Standard Room (two bedrooms).

 

 

Day 6: Kone - Hienghene (121km)

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.

 

Drive to Hienghene via the Kone / Tiwaka transversal road (121km / 1h25).

 

In the afternoon, take a family outing on a kayak to discover the Hienghene Lagoon. The kayaks are suitable for all ages and are ideal means of getting close-up views of the magnificent “Sphinx” and “The Broody Hen” rock formations.

 

Accommodation at the Koulnoue Village in two Bungalows.

 

 

Day 7: Hienghene

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.

 

After breakfast, you will be taken on an excursion to Hiengha Island and its marine protected area just a 15minute boat trip.

 

You will be guided around the underwater path where you will discover different marine zones (hard coral, soft coral, etc...) - an interactive way to discover the subaquatic flora and fauna of the region. After a rest on the island, you can wander around the botanic track where you will encounter several dozen different plant species.

 

Lunch and afternoon free.

 

Accommodation at the Koulnoue Village in two Bungalows.

 

 

Day 8: Hienghene - Poindimié (72km)

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.

 

Drive to Poindimié (1h).

 

9am – Meet your guide at your hotel. He will take you on a 45 minute bike ride to the Ina Tribe where the use of traditional materials for catching river shrimps will be explained to you - then you can have a try.

Lunch provided in the excursion.

 

Return to the hotel.

 

2pm – Meet up your guide again and follow him in your car to the Kogingone Tribe which is your departure point for your 25 minute walk. Your guide will stop frequently to explain the flora and the fauna and will take you up to the magnificent Kogingone waterfalls, niched in lush greenery.

 

You can go for a swim, but it is not supervised: the guide does not stay with you.

 

Return to your car at your convenience.

 

Return to the hotel.

Day 9: Poindimié - Sarramea (195km)

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.

 

Drive to Sarramea via the Col des Roussettes (Fruit Bat Pass) - 2h45.

 

Suggestions – Short 15 minute walk to the Trou Feuillet (swimming waterhole).

    Visit the Parc des Grandes Fougeres (Large Fern Park) - paid admission, closed on Tuesdays

    Quad or horse rides in Sarramea (you can book through New Caledonia Voyages).

 

Accommodation at the Evasion Hotel in a Family Bungalow.

 

 

Day 10: Sarramea - Port Boise (200km)

 

International breakfast at your hotel.

 

Head south to the Parc de la Riviere Bleue (Blue River Park) - paid admission. The drive should take 2 hours and 30 minutes, and you will need to buy a picnic lunch on the way*.

 

9.30am – A great way to visit the Park is with the mountain bike/kayak package which allows you to discover the superb treed landscapes of this preserved site. You head off on the mountain bike through the forest and return using the kayak through the Foret Noyee (Flooded Forest).

 

This activity is accessible to the non-sporty, you simply need to be healthy and enjoy the adventure.

Child-sized mountain bikes are available or you can use either the trail-gator attached to an adult’s bike or bike trailer behind an adult bike for smaller children.

 

Lunch free (organise your picnic).

 

3.30pm – End of the activity.

 

Drive to Port Boisé (80km /1h40), arrive late afternoon.

 

Accommodation at the Kanua Tera Ecolodge in a Tropical Bungalow.

 

*For your picnic lunch, you can buy it at the Carrefour Supermarket, as you enter Noumea, or at Casino Supermarket in Mont Dore.

 

 

Day 11: Port Boise

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.

 

Drive to the Baie de la Somme.

 

8:30am – Climb aboard the boat at the Baie de la Somme.

 

Your skipper will unveil the secrets of the mining activities and the fishing campsites in the area.

At the first stop, you will discover the remains of the cobalt mining sites that are hidden in the vegetation before stopping again at the hot water springs (30-43°C) where you can have a swim.

 

Return to the boat

 

11am – Stop at Casy Island, a jewel of the southern region with its white sandy creeks niched in lush vegetation.

 

Simple lunch and relaxation time with the possibility of swimming and wandering around the island.

 

Return by boat to the Baie de la Somme (excursion ends at 3:30pm)

 

Return to the hotel.

 

Accommodation at the Kanua Tera Ecolodge in a Tropical Bungalow.

 

It is possible to extend this leg with a whale watching day trip on board a catamaran - during the migration season which runs from mid-July to mid-September.

 

 

Day 12: Port Boise - Noumea (92km) - Isle of Pines

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.

 

Drive back to Noumea (1h45).

 

Hand your car back either at the hotel or at Magenta Airport.

 

Flight from Noumea to Ile des Pins (25min)

 

Transfer to your hotel.

Day 13: Isle of Pines

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.

 

8.30am – Depart for your 4WD guided tour of Isle of Pines. Your guide will take you to a private forest, to the remains of the colonial prison, to St Maurice and St Joseph Bays. You will stop at the Queen Hortense Grotto (admission fee not included) then head to the Gadji and Crabs Bays. On the way, you will enjoy beautiful view points over the lagoon and islets. You will taste the Bougna (traditional Melanesian meal) for lunch (drink included).

 

In the afternoon, you can enjoy some free time at the famous Piscine Naturelle (Natural Pool).

 

Transfer back to your hotel around 4pm.

Day 14: Isle of Pines

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel, then free day.

 

Suggestions – Short Excursion to Ilot Nokanhui with its superb spit of white sand followed by lunch under the New Caledonian ine trees on Ilot Brosse.

    Excursion on an traditional outrigger, called "pirogue" to the Baie d'Upi, with its turquoise waters and rock outcrops.

Day 15: Isle of Pines - Noumea

 

Buffet breakfast at your hotel.

 

Transfer from your hotel to the Isle of Pines Airport for your return flight to Noumea.

Day 16: International Departure or Extension
