The magical and mysterious island of Maré (Nengone in the local language) is the southern most and highest of the Loyalty Islands. It is the setting for many local myths and legends and just one look at it shows why. This is an island marked by its wild, untamed beauty – carved cliffs, dark forests and wonderful creeks nestling between the rocks. The central plain is made up of the old lagoon and is dotted with caves and natural pools which glow with iridescent shades of blue and green. Try taking some time out to explore the island’s many coves courtesy of a local guide. Discovering Maré is above all about meeting its people and the feelings experienced…
Day 01: Noumea - Mare
Departure in the morning (according to the availabilities) for a 40min flight to Mare.
Upon arrival at Mare Airport, you will directly pick up your car rental.
Night in the accommodation of your choice:
Option 1: Traditional hut in Accueil en Tribu / Tribal Accommodation
The traditional hut is architecturally representative of the Kanak culture. Its features represent the lifestyle and organization of the tribes.
Option 2: Garden Bungalow at Nengone Village Hotel
Located on one of the numerous white sand beaches of Maré, on a secluded creek lined by a tropical forest, the Nengone Village Hotel offers its guests comfortable accommodation, various leisure activities and is famous for its friendly service.
Day 02: Mare
Day at leisure. Among the wonderful activities/ things to do you could enjoy are:
Hiking on the Shabadran beach
Visit of a vanilla plantation
Tadine: Tadine is Maré's main centre and also home to the Port of Maré.
La Asicen: A stroll in the forest beneath the La Asicen Cliffs with their deep caves and wild ferns.
Beaches tour: This is a beautiful walk from Nengone Village hotel with open access along the beaches.
Queen Hortense’s Cave.
Eoce Beach: excursion by boat or on foot to the Eoce beach
Natural Aquarium: The clear water set in bushland is so tranquil it is almost eerie.The pool is full of fish and even turtles that rush to investigate the sound of passing visitors.
Trou de Bone: This 40m deep limestone cave is one of Maré's most impressive sinkholes. The sheer sides drop to lush garden and a small waterhole.

Day 03: Mare - Noumea
Morning at leisure.
Drop off your rental car at the airport at the end of the day.
Flight Mare / Noumea (40 min).
