From Noumea you’ll go to the the magical and mysterious island of Maré, which is the southernmost and highest of the Loyalty Islands. It is the setting for many local myths and legends and just one look at it shows why. This is an island marked by its wild, untamed beauty – carved cliffs, dark forests and wonderful creeks nestling between the rocks. The central plain is made up of the old lagoon and is dotted with caves and natural pools which glow with iridescent shades of blue and green.
Then you will discover the largest and most diverse of the Loyalty Islands: Lifou! Immaculate beaches, precipitous cliffs, deep forests, immense caves... the variety of scenery in this beautiful island are echoed in the open and enterprising nature of its inhabitants. They will be happy to welcome and share with you the wealth of their traditions and history.
Ouvéa is one of the most beautiful atolls in the Pacific with its white-sand beach extending for 25 km, caressed by crystal-clear, sparkling water of varying hues. 35 km long and in some places less than 40 metres wide, with a total area of 132 km2, the island has a single road running north to south, sometimes along the endless beach planted with coconut palms that faces the lagoon and sometimes beside the intense blue of the open Pacific Ocean. It has been called the ‘island closest to paradise’ by those lucky enough to have stayed there and it’s easy to see why – dazzling blue skies, a beautiful climate, friendly locals and a lagoon which has been registered by UNESCO as part of the world heritage of humanity.
