When Captain Cook discovered Isle of Pines in 1774 he was so struck by the beautiful vegetation that he named the island accordingly. A tranquil paradise of turquoise bays, white-sand beaches and tropical vegetation, Isle of Pines is also a haunting place where dark caves lie hidden in the forest and the bush invades the crumbling ruins of a convict prison. The Kuniés, as the island's inhabitants are known, have kept alive the tradition of sailing pirogues (outrigger canoes), and you'll see these ancient craft gliding elegantly across the calm lagoon.

On your first day, you'll settle into your luxury five-star Noumea hotel, only a stone's throw from the beach. The next two days are yours to spend as you wish, whether you're after some time in the water, some shopping, or a fix of culture and history. On day four you'll journey to the Isle of Pines, which is billed as one of the most romantic islands in the world. The natural turquoise lagoon and white powdery sands of magnificent Oro Bay border Le Méridien Ile des Pins. Inspired by Melanesian architecture and culture, this luxury resort is built from a unique blend of Kuto timber and stone. On Isle of Pines, there are more pristine waters and new activity options - perhaps you'd like to tour the prison, journey to the top of N'Ga Peak or sail on a traditional outrigger on Upi bay’s limpid water as you gaze at blocks of corals that are scattered around the bay. On day seven you'll find yourself enjoying a buffet breakfast before beeing transferred back to Noumea for your last night - which we think is the perfect chance to get a taste of gourmet French cuisine.
