Deva

Isle of Pines 

When Captain Cook discovered Isle of Pines in 1774 he was so struck by the beautiful vegetation that he named the island accordingly. Ile des Pins, 25-minutes by plane from Noumea is truly one of the jewels of the South Pacific. PROGRAM 

 

Day 1: Australia – New Caledonia

Upon arrival at Tontouta International airport, you will be transferred to Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Spa & Golf Resort (5-star), New Caledonia’s newest resort (90 Minutes). Situated in Gouaro Deva, in the Bourail district on the central-west coast of Grande Terre, the Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Resort & Spa is surrounded by verdant tropical gardens and the emerald waters of the southwest Pacific. The Deva Domain is a natural reserve of unspoiled hills and valleys of dry forest and unique biodiversity facing 13 kilometers of white-sand beach.

Day 2: Bourail

Enjoy a Buffet Breakfast at your Resort. Combining Melanesian tradition and traditional French influence, the Sheraton New Caledonia Deva is the perfect home base for exploring the spectacular waters and marine life in this part of the Pacific Ocean. The house reef offers an array of aquatic and recreational activities, such as diving and snorkeling amid the prolific marine life. Partake in water sports including sailing, windsurfing, jet skiing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, and kite surfing. Join the fun with a game of beach volleyball with new friends, or simply soak up some sun on the golden-sand beaches. Try your hand at fly-fishing or angling. Charter a boat and take an excursion out to sea for the day, or paddle a canoe or kayak down a river or on a lake.

Day 3: Bourail

Enjoy a Buffet Breakfast at your hotel. There are plenty of land activities here too. The Grande Terre has some of the best hiking in the South Pacific—follow one of the old mining and forest tracks amid native plants and birds. Play a round of golf on a great 18-hole course, or enjoy a game of tennis, squash, or cricket. Explore the area on a bicycle or take a riveting horseback riding expedition in the mountains.

Day 4: Bourail – Ile des Pins

Buffet Breakfast at your resort before you will be picked up and transferred to Noumea Magenta Domestic Airport (2.5 hours). Then, you will fly to Isle of Pines, one of the most beautiful and romantic island in the world. Upon arrival in Isle of Pines, you will be transferred to Le Meridien Ile des Pins.

Day 5: Ile des Pins

Morning, enjoy your buffet breakfast in your exceptional resort and then you will be able to discover this beautiful island by your own way.

Suggested things to do in Isle of Pines:

• Kanumera and Kuto Bays: With their beautiful powdery white beaches and araucaria pines, these bays are the main visitor spots. There is good swimming at Kuto and good snorkelling at Kanumera. 

• Oro Bay / Natural Pool: North of Vao, a walk through the forest leads to two wonderful beaches and a natural swimming pool formed in the coral. Ideal for snorkelling. 

• The Remains of the prison: In the 19th century this was the site of a French Political Prison. Here you can learn about the area’s rich and vibrant history.

• Cemetery of the political prisoners: Known as Les Déportés this is a dedication to all the prisoners who lived and died on the island.

• Queen Hortense's Cave: The island’s most famous cave has numerous stalactites and stalagmites, and a little stream. The cave was said to be the hiding place of Queen Hortense before her abdication in 1883. It’s located east of the airport, near Vao. Please note that caves may only be visited with a guide and permission must be sought to visit tribal sites, and a small gift presented. 

• Brosse Islets or Nohanhui Islet: Two wonderful little tropical paradises which will offer a day you’ll never forget.

• N’Ga Peak (262m): An hour’s walk up the summit of N’ga Peak – the island’s highest point – affords superb views of the entire island. The path begins near Gite Kuberka.

• Gadgi Beach: A great chance to relax by the sea.

• Bougna Feast: Take part in a traditional Kanak feast. The Bougna often contains taro, yam, sweet potato and banana, and pieces of either chicken, fish, crab, prawns or lobster wrapped in banana leaves and cooked over hot stones. 

• Diving: There are good dive sites at Vallée des Gorgones offering a chance to see eagle rays, leopoard sharks and hard and soft corals. All diving is arranged through Kunie Scuba Centre.

Day 7: Ile des Pins - Noumea

Enjoy a Buffet breakfast at your resort. Then you will be picked up from your hotel to Isle of Pines Airport for your flight to Noumea. Once arrival in Nouméa, you will be transferred to Le Meridien Nouméa, the most luxurious 5 star hotel in Nouméa, offering very good services with direct access to the beach!

Day 8: Noumea

Your Honeymoon includes a Noumea Guided City Orientation Tour:

After a first overview of the Southern Tip of Noumea’s peninsula from the Ouen Toro Hill outlook, drive along the city’s famous bays, starting with Anse Vata Bay and Lemon Bay, their lovely beaches and burstling cafés, restaurants and shops. Then head to the City Centre and Coconut Square passing by museums, the city market and more restaurants and shops. Enjoy an overwiew of the City Centre with photo opportunity from the FOL lookout. Before returning to the hotels, stop at a local supermarket and learn from your guide about the best of French Products (wine, cheese, bread, etc.) with opportunity to shop. Once finished, you will walk away with all you need to enjoy Noumea.

Day 9: Noumea

Take this day to spend as you wish. Among the wonderful activities you could enjoy are:

• The Tjibaou Cultural Centre: Discover the unique architectural buildings just 10 minutes from the city centre. The bold, modern style, both elegant and restrained, has been designed from the inspiration of traditional Kanak architecture. View fantastic art and artefacts from all over the South Pacific. 

• Duck Island: Spend the day on this small islet which is easily seen and accessed by water taxi from Anse Vata Bay. It’s truly a tiny paradise with its rich underwater fauna and flora. Snorkel along the underwater paths with explanatory signs where you’ll discover superb multi coloured tropical fishes and feel like you’re in an aquarium! 

• Bays Tour by Segway: Take a trip around the area with this fun, novel, form of transport.

• Ouen Toro Hill: for a panoramic view over Nouméa and seawards to the tropical islets and blue waters protected by the barrier reef.

• The Colourful and Lively Nouméa Markets: A wonderful place for coral reefs and deep sea fish from Marlin and Tuna to Sardines and Parrot-fish – a huge array of local vegetables and fruit, plus displays of local arts and craft.

• The City Museum: where you will learn everything about the Caledonian capital.

• French Cooking Class: Let a French Chef teach you the secrets of French cuisine! Spend 2 hours learning and assisting the Chef in producing a truly French main course and dessert. Sip a glass of wine or local home made juice as you prepare to taste the results of your skill. The chef will also present you with your very own souvenir diploma to confirm your talent in the kitchen!

• Karikate Horse Riding: Horseback is a relaxed and idyllic way to experience the area. Karikate lies just 45 minutes away from Nouméa and offers horse riding through the surrounding farmland and beaches.

• Lemon Bay: Baie des Citrons is the perfect place for a family day at the beach or a meal in one of its restaurants and cafés. 

• Scuba Diving & Snorkelling: Take a trip into the depths of Nouméa’s wonderful lagoon. Known as the largest lagoon in the world is has an incredible number of dive sites – most of which are classified.

• Noumea Aquarium: World famous for its fluorescent corals and numerous varieties of tropical sea life, the Aquarium is located between the two main beaches – Anse Vata and Baie des Citrons.

Day 10: Noumea

Take this day to spend as you wish. Noumea combines all the laid-back atmosphere of the South Pacific with the urban elegance of France—from the profusion of old French colonial houses, with ornate wrought-iron balconies, tree-lined squares, and men playing petanque, to French-inspired cafés, restaurants, and designer-label shopping, Parisian style. In contrast, a ten-minute walk reveals the contemporary architecture of the Baie des Citrons, Anse Vata, and Port Moselle, Nouméa’s modern face. Nouméa offers a prolific variety of leisure activities, from tennis, golf, squash, and cricket to bush-walking, horse riding, and hunting. The huge barrier reef surrounding the island makes water sports the main recreation; activities that can be enjoyed year-round include sailing, windsurfing, swimming, snorkelling, and scuba diving.
